Stufftastic

Family groups in Oz are upset about Kick Ass, the movie directed by Matt Vaughn (Layer Cake, Stardust)based on the comic by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr about a kid (Aaron Johnson) who takes up superheroing despite having no powers.

They’re complaining about the red band trailer that focuses on Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz), a 12-year-old raised by her superhero dad (Nic Cage) to follow in his foot steps. In the trailer, which, as a red band trailer, is a ‘net exclusive and won’t be seen in cinemas, she uses the “c” word, which seems to be the main concern.

Everything I’ve heard about the movie has been positive. It’s strange how films with more violence and swearing get released all the time, but because this is based on a comic, suddenly it’s for families. Um, no. Not all comics are for kids. I think we’ve gotten to the point where people realise not all cartoons are for kids, so why not comics?
